Indications for an Ultrasound:

  • Alterations in serum chemistries

  • Chronic vomiting and weight loss

  • Fever of unknown origin

  • Cavitary effusions

  • Palpable masses

  • Lethargy, "ADR"

  • Acute abdomen

  • Anemia (acute or chronic)

  • Ascites

  • Ruling out intestinal foreign body, assess if a case is surgical

Indications for an Echocardiogram:

  • Elevated NT-proBNP

  • Cardiomegaly on thoracic radiographs

  • Loud heart murmur in puppy or kitten

  • Muffled heart sounds

  • Arrhythmia

  • Collapse/exercise intolerance/tachypnea

  • Assess ability to tolerate IV fluid diuresis or anesthetic fluids
