Indications for an Ultrasound:

Alterations in serum chemistries

Chronic vomiting and weight loss

Fever of unknown origin

Cavitary effusions
-
Palpable masses
-
Lethargy, "ADR"
-
Acute abdomen
-
Anemia (acute or chronic)
-
Ascites
-
Ruling out intestinal foreign body, assess if a case is surgical
Indications for an Echocardiogram:
-
Elevated NT-proBNP
-
Cardiomegaly on thoracic radiographs
-
Loud heart murmur in puppy or kitten
-
Muffled heart sounds
-
Arrhythmia
-
Collapse/exercise intolerance/tachypnea
-
Assess ability to tolerate IV fluid diuresis or anesthetic fluids
